The Busy Coder's Guide to Advanced Android Development Version 1.9 Released

Subscribers now have access to The Busy Coder’s Guide to Advanced Android Development, Version 1.9. PDFs are available now, with EPUBs and as-is Kindle editions showing up hopefully within 24 hours.

The updates in this edition are…substantial.

  • A new chapter on doing push operations using Cloud to Device Messaging (C2DM)

  • A new section showing how to work with remote services, passing data back and forth… without binding!

  • A new section on how to respond to custom MIME types or other URLs clicked upon in the Browser

  • A new section — inspired by a code sample from a reader just like you! — demonstrating how to drag-and-drop items in a map’s ItemizedOverlay

  • A new section on making use of activity aliases in the manifest

  • A revamped app widget that supports identi.ca, more so than Twitter, in light of the authentication change

  • A new FauxSender sample application, replacing the former TwitterSender, to demonstrate implementing ACTION_SEND handlers

  • And, of course, the ever-popular errata fixes

This book, plus any errata fixes, will be re-released as Version 2.0 in about a month, plus also published as the 2nd Edition in print.
