hello, sudokai!
how can I help you today?
ndrocchietto_ivano
hello
sudokai
Hi! No questions yet. I'm a new subscriber and I'm still exploring the site! I'm a backend developer transitioning to Android development, so there's a lot of learning ahead for me. :D
Mark M.
OK. Usually people only come to the office hours when they have a specific question (or questions). You are certainly welcome to attend without questions, but it may be rather quiet in here. :-)
4:45 PM
ndrocchietto_ivano
java?
sudokai
ndrocchietto_ivano:
ndrocchietto_ivano
btw your back end insights bring me an association to docker
everybody is using containers nowdays,
and there is a kind of container technology in android now
is called dynamic feature modules
sudokai
I have experience with several languages. Java mainly, but also Go, Node, Python...
ndrocchietto_ivano
i followed a meet up, look as a nightmare to revert, do you mark have an opinion on that?
please
Mark M.
an opinion on what? I am not certain what specifically you are referring to
ndrocchietto_ivano
sudokai: I am doing some cool python tonight to automate a terminal script that will allow me to read in secret in the android logs
4:50 PM
Mark M.
AFAIK, that only works on the Play Store, and I try to avoid whatever I can that is tied exclusively to Google
ndrocchietto_ivano
this guy @meetup was implementing separate financial modules in his bank so that the user get only the features he needs
Mark M.
plus, app bundles require that you allow Google to sign your APK, and IMHO that is exceptionally dangerous
ndrocchietto_ivano
I see, this remember me the post from Jake warton of 3 days ago
sudokai
Mark Murphy: Why do you think that's dangerous?
Mark M.
whoever signs the app is the one who controls what goes in the app
ndrocchietto_ivano
Mark M.
the focus of app bundles is on what Google removes (unnecessary languages, etc.)
however, Google can add as well as subtract
if you sign your own APK, it is possible to ensure that your APK contents are not modified
ndrocchietto_ivano
i am studying some security actually so i tried to reverse engineer an old android app minsdk 3, that was in abandonware
sudokai
ndrocchietto_ivano: It seems like a nice feature for games, to reduce download size
ndrocchietto_ivano
and apart some obfuscated variables the code was really easy to read
yeah sudokai
I suggest you to do some kotlin
if you like go you will enjoy i guess
and today if you know android can also build app for iOS
sudokai
ndrocchietto_ivano: Yeah, I am learning Kotlin, it's pretty easy to pick up
4:55 PM
ndrocchietto_ivano
cool glad backend engineer do some mobile, is really fun
btw this evening was doing some python from the linux terminal
do you know jupiter-qt?
is really cool
jupyter*
but python is super ugly imo
what I really like from backend engineers that come to Android
is that they are really suprised how architecture can be comple
x
sudokai
@ndr: I have also done sysadmin/devops work and have some web frontend experience as well. I guess after I learn Android, I'll finally be a full stack developer.
ndrocchietto_ivano
you can say that
which frontend?
react, vue or js?
sudokai
React, Vue
ndrocchietto_ivano
have a good news for you
is coming android compose that know is beta
5:00 PM
ndrocchietto_ivano
where you build your view programmatically( now is a separate xml file) and looks a looot to react vue regarding their awesome component
5:00 PM
sudokai
I haven't played with jupyter. I haven't worked with python for a few years.
ndrocchietto_ivano
ah i see
jupyter is cool if you wanna have kinda excel
i prefer python or pycharm
anyway we are short of time
the hour is ending..
Mark M.
yes, I need to end the chat for today
ndrocchietto_ivano
:(
Mark M.
the next one is Tuesday at 8:30am US Eastern

ndrocchietto_ivano
