howdy, Zuojun!
how can I help you?
Zuojun Z.
Hello
I have a question: I want to launch an application when system boots
It is like a launcher
I know that I can do it by editing the framework level
and set my app as launcher in the manifest file, then delete the system own launcher
I want to know whether I can do it just in application level, replace the launcher by my own edtion
Mark M.
you can make yours be an option for the user
4:05 PM
Mark M.
you cannot force the user to choose yours, nor can you remove the system's launcher
Zuojun Z.
My assumption to do it is that I can edit the system. Because it will be an custom ROM
Mark M.
then your original plan is probably what you want: "set my app as launcher in the manifest file, then delete the system own launcher"
Zuojun Z.
Can I finish it in application level? I do not want to edit the framework level.
Mark M.
I repeat: you can make yours be an option for the user, but you cannot force the user to choose yours, nor can you remove the system's launcher at the application level
Zuojun Z.
OK. Thanks you.
Do you know any blog or something mentioned this kind of function? If there is some I will appreciate it
Mark M.
I do not know what you mean by "this kind of function"
4:10 PM
Mark M.
if you mean "how to create a custom ROM", that is not my area of expertise, sorry
Zuojun Z.
build an own launcher to replace the system edition
Mark M.
I do not have any resources on how to replace a system launcher, sorry
Zuojun Z.
It is OK. Never mind
I just read your book. Its material is abundant.
Thanks for your work
Mark M.
you are very welcome
Zuojun Z.
Besides the office hour, is there other way to ask questions to you?
Mark M.
I answer many questions on StackOverflow, though certainly not all of them
Zuojun Z.
Yes. I found your blog on stackoverflow
4:15 PM
Zuojun Z.
OK, if I have question I will ask questions there and labeled "commonsware"
Mark M.
the 'commonsware' tag is for questions regarding the book or my open source projects
please do not use that tag for general Android development questions
Zuojun Z.
yes, that is right
I have no more question today
Have a nice day
Mark M.
you too!
